Brandon Florida High School Senior Portraits

Here is a] look back at a beautiful spring senior portrait session in Brandon, Florida. But, this blog post has tips for your senior heading into their final school year and how to pick the right time, location and photographer for their own senior portaits. As we head into the first week of school locally, it is fun to start planning for the photos you will look back on fondly from this fun time in your life. If you are a new senior, trust me, now is the time to start thinking about your senior portraits. Planning them out at the start of the year really gives you the choice of location, the best season and weather, and allows for enough turn around time for ordering heirloom products before graduation is over!

I love to talk to seniors early in the year so we know what time of year they are most flexible for time for the session. Not only do your activities and schedules matter when scheduling a photo session, but your own personal style should be part of the senior portrait session, too. If you are not a fan of heat, you have limited weeks to set up your session here in Florida. That is probaly best for January/February timeframe. If you love long days and sunshine, then you may want to set your session up by late October, before Daylight Savings ends, or late spring when the days start to get longer. If you love to wear shorts or dresses, tank tops/spaghetti straps, and the like, you probably will be freezing in our mild winters, too. Crazy, I know, but there are times we do get cold. If boots, sweaters, fun hats and layers are your jam, then late fall or winter could be perfect for you. If you wait until the last minute, you may be limited with spaces that your photographer can get you in and also get your edited images back, or get artwork back to you, including custom senior announcements.

Some locations also photograph better at certain times of the year. If you want a beach, then you may want to pick a time when the beaches are less crowded and let’s face, it less humid, right? Weekends tend to be busier on the weekends and during school holidays, and holidays in general. Each beach has a different vibe, too, so your photographer can help you pick the right one for you. Or, if you know you love a lush greenery backdrop, then the hight of summer may be full of bugs, too. Whereas fall, the light over lush trees can just look so warm and sparkly. Flower fields are always in high demand but they just don’t bloom year round in Florida. So, planning ahead will mean your photographer can try to match your session with the right time of year for wildflowers! Or, if you are an urban/city scape fan, you again may want to pick a time when sunsets later or you may be competing with higher traffic downtown as the work day ends if you do a session when days are shorter (late fall/winter).

Lastly, you should pick the right photographer for your senior portaits. Not all photographers are the same. Everyone’s style and offerings differ. Just like every senior shouldn’t look the same, you want to pick the photographer that matches your unique style, too. I love a good portrait or two, but don’t generally want to spend the whole time photographing you with the same smile. I love to capture light and will use that as an important part of the photo. Bold, happy, fun, and authentic are all words to describe my style. If you prefer more soft or airy edited colors or more traditional portraits, we probably are not a great match. Just make sure you look around at your photographer before you book, or you book for your children. Ultimately, our goal is that parents and children alike are happy with these milestone portraits.

These are all things to think about as you enter your final year of high school. Contact me today to discuss options so you don’t miss out on a fun, personality filled senior portrait session for the class of 2023!
