Indian rocks beach | family photo session
After all the rain we have been having, it was so nice to get to the beach and not be hit by a storm or a downpour. Not saying we weren’t still on alert, as there was rain to the north and the south, but we were just right in Indian Shores. This family was visiting Indian Rocks Beach and wanted a family photo session while they were here. They were especially looking to document their family together, healthy, happy and enjoying this getaway to the Florida beaches. I could not have been happier to photograph this gorgeous family. I mean, their smiles are so contagious, right?
Not only did the weather work out but the spot they were staying at offered a tiny patch of the most lush green sea grapes I have seen at the beach in a while. The greenery at Indian Rocks Beach provided some much needed shade to start their family photo session with. The shade was particuarly nice when the “feels-like” temperature was 105 degrees Fahrenheit when we began. The greenery also helped their summery colorful wardrobe pop as well. One of the steps of getting to know families before we meet for the first time in person is to cover wardrobe for the session. When I saw they were going with bright colors, I was excited but also knew that the greens around the beach would really help provide that matching and deep, rich colorful backdrop, too. When we got to the beach itself the fun colors also popped against the soft sand color and coordinated perfectly with the blue water, too. I love a good soft neutral wardrobe for the beach, too, but these fun colors really help show how vibrant they are and the colors are so happy, too! Plus, a few patterns really bring their personality out. This session really shows that patterns work well and can bring more visual interest to a session than a plain polo shirt for every session. Not to mention, in black and white images, patterns are just fantastic! I am a huge lover of black and white images and tend to print at least a few from each of our own family’s photo sessions. That is because they work so well as our kids grow and we add photos to our gallery walls and in gift prints we send to the grandparents, too.
